Inga Hankas’ novel “Little Hollywood” has everything a good summer read needs: sun and the lake, lightheartedness and love, and a courageous protagonist who learns to take control of her life.

Leo has just finished her final high school exam. The last summer of the millennium is also the first summer of “real” life. But things don’t turn out quite the way she imagined.

Instead of lounging by the lake with her crush Olli, she spends her vacation with her little brother. Instead of finally sorting out her college spot in Cologne, a criminal complaint against her abusive father lands on her doorstep. All in all, “real” life is a bitter disappointment!

Leo loves to escape into the world of movies. At the “Little Hollywood” video store, she finds everything her heart desires. But Jo works there, too. He’ll only hand over Leo’s favorite movies if she plays “Truth or Dare” with him first. And so she has to face her life time and time again before she can immerse herself in the world of movies.
