Lesung: Sara Klatt liest aus ihrem Roman "Das Land, das ich dir zeigen will" im Rahmen der Ausstellung „Mit eigener Stimme. 75 Jahre Zentralrat der Juden in Deutschland“

Sara Klatt's debut novel "The Land I Want to Show You" is about a young woman who researches her family's past in order to understand the development of Israel, the land of her ancestors: "My grandfather's Israel of 1948 is different from my father's Israel of 1961. It is different again from the Israel of my childhood or my youth, and it is a different Israel from the Israel of today."

The novel changes perspective many times. Israel appears as the land of the people of the past, whom the protagonist S. got to know through her grandfather's stories, and at the same time as the land of the people of the present, whom she meets while hitchhiking between Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. And as S. learns more and more about the lives of these people, her own story, that of her father, her grandfather - and her own place in Israel - opens up to her bit by bit.

Sara Klatt shows a country that is as multi-layered as its inhabitants, a land full of vibrancy between dream and trauma.

Sara Klatt, born in 1990, grew up in Hamburg. She is the granddaughter of a Berlin Jew who emigrated to Israel; her father fled Königsberg in 1944. She first moved to Tel Aviv for a year at the age of 21 and later returned to Israel again and again for longer stays and numerous photographic projects. She studied Photojournalism & Documentary Photography in Hanover and Jewish Studies in Potsdam and Haifa. She photographed in Jerusalem for an Israeli press agency and most recently looked after a network for German-speaking Shoah survivors from Tel Aviv. Sara Klatt lives in Berlin. "The Land I Want to Show You" is her first novel.
