Inspired by his great-grandmother's spinning wheel, industrial designer Konrad Weinhuber invented a height adjustment system for ceiling lamps in 2000. His idea: during adjustment, the cable should be guided vertically into the lamp body and then wound horizontally onto a spindle.
The first luminaire with the mysterious mechanism is presented at Light & Building 2002. The beautiful piece is called TakeOne and it is finished just in time for a submission to the IF Design Award 2002. The TakeOne wins the hearts of the public and convinces the jury. Konrad Weinhuber receives an award for his TakeOne. An optimized model of the TakeOne is later marketed worldwide under the name SPIN and lays the foundation for the KOMOT company.
The successor to the SPIN in the now highly technical LED world is the KOS in 2018. Only with the KOS does the mysterious height adjustment unfold its full potential. Suspended from a ceiling rail, the luminaire bodies can be formed into individual formations in the room. An innovative play of light, form and rhythm that does not go unnoticed in the design industry: in 2019, the company will receive the German Design Award for the KOS.
As part of the LICHTWOCHE Munich, KOMOT will provide insights into 20 years of development history and show its range of luminaires. Location: showroom at Viktoriastrasse 7 in 80803 Munich. On Wednesday, 8.11. in the evening we invite you to toast with us to 20 years of KOMOT.
