Yes, is it Christmas already? Thirteen days before Christmas Eve, the Lied United crew presents its loyal audience with musical Christmas gifts. In December, the monthly concert series presents a contemplative and quirky program at the Loreley pub in Cologne.

Starek

The acoustic duo Starek consists of Jan Starek (vocals, concert guitar) and Raimund Gitsels (violin). They perform English-language songs that are uncompromisingly independent and - as they themselves say - "acute". Jan Starek played with the Düsseldorf pioneering punk band S.Y.P.H. in the early 1980s, lived in the pop metropolis of London and became involved with contemporary new music, leaving everything behind him in a transformed state. The experimental violinist Raimund Gitsels from "Gee And The Plastic Strings" is on the road with his electric violin in many projects, with loops, prog rock or a string quartet. The exclusive joint performance at Lied United promises to be unique.

A journey through the depths of fragile intimacy to rugged and noisy soundscapes, through personal and
soundscapes, through the personal and the political, surrounded by a wide-ranging and ever-changing instrumental environment - behind me & the driver is the Cologne-based songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Ingo Arntz, who is now going solo after the break-up of Children of Lir. The repertoire includes original compositions that are highly varied both musically and lyrically. This ranges from the classic guitar-blues harp combination to the use of various percussion elements
percussion elements, the Irish tin whistle and the looped didgeridoo.

Who Is Afraid Of The Big Bad Wolf?

The series will be opened in December by Who Is Afraid Of The Big bad Wolf?, the band of Lied United presenter Wolfgang A. Noethen. The singer/songwriter creates highly melodious, wistful indie folk songs with radiantly beautiful melodies, sometimes alone with guitar, banjo, harmonica and theremin, sometimes as a trio with cello and violin.
