This panel will look at the structural background to the war: what role do the exploitation of raw materials and global markets play - for example in gold, agricultural commodities such as gum arabic or other strategic resources? How do regional and international interests intervene in the conflict? And where is there concrete political scope for de-escalation and support for civilian forces?

At the same time, we will discuss how media images and dominant narratives shape the view of Sudan - and how they can be countered with differentiated Sudanese perspectives.

Afterwards, we invite you to an exchange over Sudanese food and live music (Hassan elMalik and Sun Blues).
