Three current literary works set sail on the Elbe in the harbor and along the banks towards the sea. The Hamburg authors Lara M. Gahlow, Anne Sauer and Tamar Noort will be reading in the saloon of the spacious passenger ship MS Commodore.

With subtle humor and a great sense of nuance, Lara M. Gahlow's short story debut "Vorwiegend festkochend" tells of the courage to be close in a world that doesn't provide for it: Minna is 92, lives alone - and counts the words of the carers she encounters every day. Until Moni arrives. Moni listens. Moni buys the right potatoes. Between shopping lists, puffed rice and North German practicality, a special bond is formed.

Anne Sauer tells the story of how your own life could have turned out if you hadn't taken that one crucial turn. "Im Leben nebenan" mirrors two scenarios of a young woman's life, alternating between two versions of a life and, with humor, emotion and lightness, takes a look at the horror of wanted and unwanted motherhood: the great happiness of having a child, but also of living without a child.

In "The Sleep of Others", Tamar Noort writes about a strong bond between two women. As a night watchwoman in the sleep lab, Janis puts strangers to bed and watches them sleep. The day-night rhythm that gives other people a natural structure does not apply to her. Sina is a teacher and has a regular daily routine. But gradually her control over her whole life slips away. When Janis and Sina meet, they free themselves from the rhythm of everyday life and embark on a journey through the night in which everything is suddenly at stake - and nothing stays the same.
