CoreChaos, a Munich-based collective, returns for another evening of live concerts exploring the boundaries of experimental, electronic, and heavy music on our Blitz dance floor, featuring a solidarity-based “pay what you can” pricing model to keep the music inclusive.

Liturgy, the Brooklyn-based project founded by Ravenna Hunt-Hendrix, has spent nearly two decades pushing the boundaries of what heavy music can achieve. Working within a genre she calls “Transcendental Black Metal,” Hunt-Hendrix has incorporated black metal, opera, classical forms, and trap production into an increasingly ambitious body of work, alongside lectures, art installations, and a philosophical framework built around eschatological theory. 93696, Liturgy’s most recent album on Thrill Jockey, is a sprawling double album structured around four “laws”: Sovereignty, Hierarchy, Emancipation, and Individuation, and recorded to tape with the intent of sounding “more punk-meets-classical than metal.”

Opening the night is Brnjsmin, aka Giovanni Raabe, a Munich-based frequent collaborator with CoreChaos, who got his start playing drums in metal and hardcore before moving toward ambient electronics, field recordings, and the intersection of music and sound art. His releases on verydeeprecords range from bass-driven ambient to left-field electronics, featuring gentle lo-fi bursts and krautrock-inspired digital synths that pay homage to Weilheim’s musical microcosm. His idiosyncratic and dynamic approach to music, full of well-placed pauses and musical silence, lends his music a sensitive yet doom- and drone-influenced weight.

Setting the tone for the evening from the DJ booth: Hyperfocus from Nuremberg, a member of her hometown’s Noize Circuit crew and the We All Die Worse collective. Tonight she turns toward the more contemplative end of her spectrum: music made for deep listening, where organic and electronic sounds go hand in hand.
