The band MANUMATEI, consisting of the two brothers Emanoil & Matei, are musicians of Romanian descent who were forced to flee under the reign of terror of dictator Ceausescu with their democratically

family of musicians in the late 1980s.

Drawing on this formative experience, MANUMATEI continue to create honest and personal songs to this day. In 2002, as pioneers of the German NuSoul scene, they first impressed the label Four Music—founded by the FANTASTISCHEN VIER—with their talent.

Their album *NENN ES SOUL ODER JAZZ*, which was atypical for its time, is still regarded today—thanks to the soulful interpretation of the songs and the soulful arrangements—as a minor milestone in recent German music history, one that would go on to pave the way stylistically for many current artists entering the music business. Over the years, MANUMATEI has focused primarily on live performances and has also supported fellow artists with their projects. Among other things, they contributed musically to Die Fantastischen Vier’s MTV Unplugged performance in the Balver Höhle, went on a major German tour with Joy Denalane, and appeared on Max Herre’s solo album, *Zu Elektrisch*. In 2012, they surprised audiences with their appearance on the TV show “The Voice.” In the years that followed, the brothers largely withdrew from the public eye and devoted their lives to their family.

Their new album, set for release in 2025, is a more mature work, with songwriting that is even more well-grounded and thoughtfully crafted. From the very first listen, it’s clear that these are now experienced and authentic singer-songwriters at work, whose greatest strength is speaking directly to listeners’ hearts with their honest songs and fostering a kind of “soulful communication.”
