Short Stories. That’sa really good story. That was the conclusion reached by the international media upon the release of Arne Jansen and Stephan Braun’s first collaborative album. On “Going Home,” Jansen—described by the Süddeutsche Zeitung as “one of the best and most versatile German guitarists”—and Braun, his congenial partner on cello and double bass, interpreted songs by the legendary rock band Dire Straits in a surprisingly different way. “Beautiful enough to make you cry,” declared Kulturnews magazine, while FAZEmag praised the duo for their “intoxicating modesty.” The U.S. trade magazine Stereophile summed it up most aptly: “What fun this album is!”

For their new recording, the two busy musicians—who have previously performed alongside artists such as Melody Gardot, Nils Landgren, Till Brönner, Nils Wülker, Anders Jormin, and the Orchestra Baobab—set the following guiding principle:

We’ll tell our own stories. “We’ve performed the Dire Straits program many times,” says guitarist Jansen, “and we’ve always mixed in some of our own material, since we don’t usually do covers—we compose our own music. After the concerts, people would often come up to us and tell us they especially loved those songs.”
