At one of her lavish parties, the celebrated Parisian courtesan Violetta is introduced to Alfredo Germont. The two fall madly in love, and although Violetta hesitates to give up her life of luxury and freedom, she follows her heart. But the young couple's happiness is short-lived - they are soon confronted with the harsh reality of life. La Traviata is as intimate as it is magnificent, bringing together some of the most famous melodies in the operatic world and is a real highlight for soprano Ermonela Jaho, who sings the lead role. In director Richard Eyre's world, bursting with seductive splendor, the delicate, poignant beauty at the heart of Verdi's opera shines in all its glory.
