Sport is culture. Culture builds society. A participatory project by and with Chemnitz residents.
LOS JUEGOS x Oxymoron brings movement to the city. What happens when people who don't know each other invent new games together? When it's not about winning, but simply about taking part? When rules are not fixed, but are created together?
The artist Checho Tamayo, who was born in Colombia and now lives in Madrid, brings with him the experience that play and movement are part of everyday life. In Colombia, soccer on the street is part of growing up. Dance is part of protests and keeps neighborhoods together. Movement there often means community - not just competition.
For five days, volunteers from the city meet in Chemnitz and work together with athletes from Athletik Sonnenberg. People of different ages and from different backgrounds come together: with or without previous experience in dance or sport. Together they try out simple movements, listen to each other, invent rules and test what works. Step by step, new games are created, somewhere between soccer, dance and ritual. It's about team spirit instead of competition. Imagination instead of pressure to perform. It's about the joy of trying things out together.
On the last weekend of the festival, these newly invented games appear in public spaces: in squares, in passages, perhaps even on the train. Suddenly the city becomes a playing field. Spectators can observe, think along or spontaneously join in. LOS JUEGOS x Oxymoron invites you to ask yourself a simple but big question: How do we actually want to play and live together?
