LOST IN MUSIC: Read & Cover
Event with readings, live music and DJs
After the party is before the party! After the kick-off event in April was a complete success, the second round of LOST IN MUSIC will take place in May. Once again, authors, journalists and presenters will read in quick succession with musicians and bands, followed by dancing together. Markus Naegele, with the support of Atomic Café founder Christian Heine, brings together what belongs together under the motto LOST IN MUSIC: literature and music. An event that is literarily about music. Letters, (auto)biographical texts, articles, novel excerpts from the wide world of pop music. Live music, but not just any music, no, LOST IN MUSIC is also about the high art of cover versions, performed by ever-changing local acts. Afterwards, DJ friends play their favorite records and it's time to party.

The performers:
Timur Vermes was born in Nuremberg in 1967. After graduating from high school, he studied history and politics in Erlangen. Since then, he has worked as a journalist for tabloid newspapers such as the Münchner Abendzeitung and the Kölner Express as well as various magazines. In 2007, he began writing books as a ghostwriter, including the book of a so-called crime scene cleaner entitled Was vom Tode übrig bleibt. In 2012, he published his first novel under the title Er ist wieder da. The satire rose to number one on the Spiegel bestseller list, was translated into 41 languages and was made into a film by Constantin Film in 2013. Vermes' second novel, Die Hungrigen und die Satten, was published in 2018 and the novel U in 2021.
Jacqueline Floßmann, born in Upper Bavaria in 1991, caused a sensation early on with her performance of Gerhard Polt's socio-critical play "Gemütlichkeit" and has received standing ovations to this day. Floßmann obtained her Master of Arts in Comparative Cultural Studies at the University of Regensburg and even then wove her musical passion into current, socially relevant contexts. Based on the foundation of popular music research, her bachelor's thesis was about the cultural significance of long hair in alternative music scenes. Since 2017, she has been working full-time as an editor at Classic Rock Magazine Germany, DJing old-fashioned pig rock on the side, struggling with her ambivalent dual role as a feminist/rock lover and walking a wobbly knife-edge as the frontwoman of her band Doll Circus. She also loves cats. Very.
Friedrich Ani, born in 1959, lives in Munich. He writes novels, poems, books for young people, radio plays, plays and screenplays. His work has been translated several times and has received numerous awards, including the German Crime Fiction Prize, the Crime Cologne Award, the Stuttgart Crime Fiction Prize, the Adolf Grimme Prize and the Bavarian Television Prize. Friedrich Ani is a member of PEN-Berlin.
Claudia Kaiser, a native of Munich, is currently working a lot with music again, because there is nothing better. After the Moulinettes, she now plays with The Sound of Money (eccentric pop), The Royal Flares (garage punk), the Dry Bones (bluegrass/country) and A Million Mercies (indie) and would actually like to play in a soul band. She has already written books ("Rocken & Hosen"), plays (e.g. the calypso musical "Wenn du die Frauenkirche sehen willst") and radio plays ("Die Schicksalmaschine" about her time as a telenovela author) - but at the moment she mainly earns her money by translating ghost hunter series for television.
JesperMunk's story is one of many ups and downs, from bluesy supernova to hip but underrated soulbro, from teenage poster boy to grown-up, seasoned singer/songwriter. And in 2024, Jesper Munk has recorded another album. After the highly acclaimed cover album "Taped Heart Sounds", this time with his own material. "Champaigne Shoes" will be released in October 2024 with its delicate lo-fi production that warms the soul and heart of every indie aficionado, which Jesper Munk has taken into his own hands this time. It features a colorful crooner's bouquet somewhere between jazz and new wave, chanson, balladic blues and lots of soul.
Maxi Pongratz, the accordion player, lyricist, songwriter and a Kofelgschroa from the very beginning, is a commuter between the big city and the small town, between Munich-Obergiesing and Oberammergau, between the big picture and the often overlooked, wondrous little things. He has released three albums with Kofelgschroa ("Kofelgschroa", "Zaun" and "Baaz"), all of which were produced by Micha Acher ("The Notwist"). In the documentary "frei.sein.wollen", Barbara Weber accompanies the band Kofelgschroa, a coming-of-age story that has attracted a lot of attention. Kofelgschroa has been on hiatus since the beginning of 2019, and Maxi Pongratz is back on the road solo with his accordion.
King Brownie comes from Osnabrück, where he influenced an entire generation musically as a DJ in Hyde Park and supported the likes of Die Ärzte, Stray Cats, Hanoi Rocks, Bo Diddley and the Undertones. He managed Lüde & the Astros for many years and works as a record salesman.
Don Marco has been playing in various underground bands since the 90s. As singer, guitarist and songwriter of the indie garage band Fuck Yeah, he released two albums and played with bands such as Maximo Park, Algiers and Frightened Rabbit. He also released two albums in German, Don Marco & die kleine Freiheit, with various musicians. He earned his living as publishing director at Heyne Hardcore and is now head of the program at btb Verlag.
