Lucia Kagramanyan 'Panorama Yerevan: On Armenian Lullabies'

Researcher and DJ Lucia Kagramanyan presents a listening session of Armenian lullabies based on her ongoing research into archival recordings and diasporic histories of sound. Through her radio project Panorama Yerevan, Kagramanyan works with material from Armenian public radio, bringing together rare, often overlooked recordings ranging from folklore to opera, pop and experimental music.

Focusing on lullabies from different regions of Western and Eastern Armenia, the listening session traces variations of local traditions and their reinterpretations, including recordings from the Soviet era. These songs, created and passed down by women in the past, often function as intimate monologues, conveying everyday experiences, grief and longing in their lyrics and melodies. Paired with spoken explanations and contextualizations, the session unfolds as a multi-layered listening experience in which archive material, voice and memory intersect.

The listening session will be recorded and will be available as a stream on Refuge Radio afterwards.
