LÜCKE 3.0 // ein AUSWÄRTSSPIEL der studiobühneköln

In the organizer's words:

Adaptation of the production "Die Lücke" (2014)
by Nuran David Calis
in cooperation with studiobühneköln

2026 marks the 22nd anniversary of the nail bomb attack that shook Keupstraße in 2004. The bombs seriously injured over twenty people, several of them critically. For years afterwards, the investigation took place exclusively among local residents. Victims and relatives of the attack were stigmatized as potential perpetrators. Evidence that the attack was racially motivated was in part actively concealed by police investigators.

In 2014, director Nuran David Calis developed the play DIE LÜCKE at Schauspiel Köln together with three local residents and three ensemble actors in order to give a voice to the people whose lives were deeply shaken and changed by the attack. At the time of the premiere of LÜCKE, the trial against the members of the so-called National Socialist Underground in Munich had only just begun. It was to last a total of five years and end with a devastating verdict for the relatives of the victims, as many of the co-defendants got off with very light sentences and some were released immediately after the end of the trial. Even after the guilty verdict, the murder victims' lawyers complained that the court had failed to give them a face.

The staging is now being continued in the Kulturbunker in Mülheim. After a guided tour of the Keupstraße by local residents, the victims will be interviewed again:
How do they perceive the NSU court verdict and the guilty verdict? What is the current status of the memorial, the place of remembrance and learning near Keupstraße that is still in the planning stage? A play that has consistently addressed racism, exclusion and social diversity since its premiere.
