The performance of the brothers Lucas and Arthur Jussen together with the WDR Symphony Orchestra is already a fine tradition in Cologne. After their brilliant performances of the double concertos from the pens of Poulenc, Mozart and Mendelssohn, they are now gaining percussive charms from their pianos with Béla Bartók. In his concerto, the Hungarian composer provided the piano sound with a rich arsenal of percussion effects - played by two percussionists who expand the solo ensemble into a quartet. The concert piece, unique in music history, is framed by Dvořák's late romantic sound pictures and Brahms' luminous second symphony.
