Making of: MENSCHHEIT

In the organizer's words:

The performance is currently fully booked.
However, it is worth coming to the Box Office as we have a waiting list. Seats often become available at short notice - we cannot guarantee this, but the chances are very good.

Please come to the Box Office at least 15 minutes before the start of the performance (7:15 pm) to be put on the waiting list.

⛺️🏢 💿 70,000 years of human history - to be brought to life for the radio, freely adapted from Yuval Noah Harari, Ulli Lust and many other researchers of the past. This is the fictitious setting for the new participatory radio performance by Philine Velhagen and Felizitas Stilleke. 🚀🛸📻

The text has been written for a long time. But one crucial part is missing: the voices, the noise, the clatter of the past. And this is where the audience comes into play. Instead of just listening, they step in front of the microphones themselves: as hunters on mammoths, as farmers in battle, as the first taxpayers in history. The result is a soundtrack that no machine or archive could ever deliver - because it is only created in this moment, in this place.

What was merely called "Walla" in the early film - situation-specific background murmuring - becomes the heart of the story here: the murmuring, the laughter, the moaning, the shouting, the collective voice of the group. And so extras become leading actors and the dynamics of the group - typical of Drama Köln's productions - become the subject of artistic research. Within two hours, an acoustic monument grows out of nothing, unique and unrepeatable.

But what if this "making of" ends up being more than just a look behind the scenes of radio? What if the history of mankind that we are telling is suddenly no longer the past - but is decided anew with every new voice?

🎙️🎛️📻

During the evening, real recording situations arise in which concentrated participation is required. However, these alternate with quieter phases of observing and listening - so you decide how much you want to contribute in each case.

If you have any questions about barrier sensitivity or would like to take special needs into account when participating, please contact us directly in advance.
