Singer-songwriter and activist Mari Boine from Sápmi, Norway, is an icon of Sámi culture. Her music is steeped in her Sámi roots and combines the traditional Sámi singing style Joik with jazz and electronic soundscapes. Since her career debut in the 1980s, she has released 14 albums, toured the world, collaborated with renowned jazz musicians such as Jan Garbarek and won four Norwegian Grammy awards for her albums. As an artist and activist, she works tirelessly for the recognition and preservation of the indigenous Sami culture. At her only German concert in the Muffathalle in 2025, Mari Boine will bring her personal stories and her message of indigenous rights and environmental protection to the world with her current album ALVA in her luggage.
