A special from the Literatur zur Zeit series. Supported by the Cultural Office of the City of Cologne and
the Kunststiftung NRW. We (sort of) open this year's book fair with the start of the four-part
four-part Literatur zur Zeit special "Pop, Literature and Society - Mind the Gaps".
The motto of the evening is "The storytellers carry on",
based on a text by Rolf Dieter Brinkmann, who died 50 years ago. Brinkmann
is now regarded as a pioneer of German-language pop literature, and as a Cologne resident by choice
he had a lot to say about this city. The evening is therefore dedicated to Brinkmann - from
19:00, "The Last One", a one-hour recording of his last reading in
Cambridge in 1975 - but is not intended to be a retrospective on him. Marius
Goldhorn presents his new novel, Fatima Khan reads from her novel in progress with the working title
with the working title "Madonna in Trümmern". Existing pop literature, references to Cologne and
references to Cologne and society in these works will of course be explored in conversation.
