Having grown up in Germany in an Iranian-German family, Roya feels both at home and out of place in Persian culture. She can barely understand a word of the conversations at her Iranian family’s dinner table, even though the sounds are so familiar to her. Her longing to get to know Iran—and thus a part of her roots—grows ever stronger. One day, the time finally comes: Together with her father, Roya sets out on a journey through Iran, where, as a queer woman, she experiences an intense time marked by fascination and fear, beauty and oppression—without realizing that this will be her last journey with her father.
