For more than two decades, mediamusic Chairman Matthias Hornschuh has been fighting to improve the working and living conditions of colleagues in the arts, culture and media. The lever is the design of the framework conditions, for example copyright law; digitization was and is the central driver. Corona drained the batteries. Then came (generative) AI.

Now Hornschuh has written a book in which he follows the trail of cultural, artistic and generally creative work and explains that this tends not to be recognized and treated as work at all - and that this has consequences for culture and our coexistence as well as for our innovative strength. And thus also for the economy.

WE ARE GIVING UP. AI, culture and the devaluation of knowledge work. The book title is an expression of anger and bewilderment, but the text is a plea for human creativity and artistic intelligence.

In his lecture, Hornschuh highlights generative AI as a challenge for cultural and creative work, democracy and the rule of law.

In the subsequent discussion, the technological - and thus inevitably also social - development will be expanded to include perspectives from the law and various artistic trades.
