This is a poetic animated documentary by Polina Piddubna that travels through time, geography, generations, and cultures to explore themes such as life, the sky, knowledge, loss, and war. It follows Alfyia, a young woman full of joie de vivre in 1960s Central Asia, who is a skydiver and is training to become a midwife when she receives an extraordinary phone call from her granddaughter in the year 2022, who is worried about her grandmother’s safety in light of the invasion of Ukraine.
In this cross-generational conversation spanning time and space, the granddaughter attempts to restore and rethink family memory and her own ethnic identity, break the endless cycle of collective trauma, and reflect on the meaning of human life.

After the Russian invasion, which directly affected my hometown in eastern Ukraine and my family, the story took on a deeper meaning.
