Miedya Mahmod: Zum Tag der Selbsthilfe 2026

On Self-Help Day 2026, the Literaturhaus Dortmund will host a literary and performative reading featuring author and performer Miedya Mahmod.

The event will address issues of mental health, chronic illness, and social inequalities in the healthcare system. It will focus on the experiences of people living with chronic illness, marginalized individuals, and people with migrant backgrounds, as well as questions of language, the body, and social participation. The reading will be followed by an open discussion with the audience.

Miedya Mahmod, born in Dortmund in 1996, lives, writes, and works in the Ruhr region. Since 2016, Mahmod has been engaged in written and performance poetry, leading writing workshops, and designing and moderating discussion and reading events. Mahmod is active in the Spoken Word Working Group of the Netzwerk Lyrik, among other initiatives, and joined the artist collective parallelgesellschaft in 2021. In 2023, Miedya Mahmod won the poetry prize at the 31st Open Mike in Berlin and read at the 48th Days of German-Language Literature in Klagenfurt in 2024. In 2025,they received a fellowship from the Kunststiftung NRW as part of the“plus eins”mentoring program,was nominatedforthe Kurt Tucholsky Prize, and received an initiative grant from the German Literature Fund.
