'Milisuthando' is a poetic-essayistic documentary about the Transkei, an "independent state" created by the apartheid government, which segregated black South Africans under the pretext of self-determination. Milisuthando Bongela, born there in 1985, reflects on her childhood in the black middle class without white interference - a supposed idyll that turned out to be an illusion. In a subversive montage of archive images, personal conversations and spiritual elements, she questions historical narratives and her own memories. In doing so, she reflects on the effects that the poison of apartheid has had on three generations of her family and her relationships with her white friends.
