Moderne Saiten

The title is inspired by Chaplin’s film *Modern Times* and translates it as *Modern Strings*. The program focuses on works for guitar, zither, and voice—solo, in duets, and in trios. In doing so, we are exploring a set of instruments that is quintessentially Munich, as it was known in the era of the folk singers. But we’re bringing this ensemble into the present day and performing music from Munich written by living composers, thereby exposing the ensemble to 21st-century compositional styles and themes. The program features works by Munich-based composers Abigel Varga, Eva Kuhn, Leon Zmelty, Michael E. Bauer, and Alexander Strauch. This also emphasizes a cross-generational perspective that is so important for our society today.
