On November 23, 1992, two racist arson attacks were carried out in Mölln, in which Ayşe Yılmaz, Yeliz Arslan and Bahide Arslan were murdered. The Mölln Speech in Exile is held annually in memory of them. Since 2013, the speech is no longer part of the "official" commemoration of the city of Mölln and is held at different locations in exile. The event, initiated by İbrahim Arslan himself, focuses on the perspectives of those affected and their relatives. The Mölln Speech in Exile is thus also an activist event and a political statement that calls for critical reflection and reappraisal of the dominant culture of remembrance (in Germany). The event's program initially includes a dance contribution and impulses on the pogrom in Mannheim-Schönau in 1992. In addition to the speeches and contributions by the Arslan and Yılmaz families as well as relatives and those affected, Şeyda Kurt will be the keynote speaker this year. On the day before the Mölln speech in exile, the song recital " As if it were yesterday " by director Ayşe Güvendiren will take place. It is a collection of loving memories of those affected by right-wing and racist violence: an evening that invites collective remembrance, an act of appropriation of historiography, a celebration of life and confidence, despite everything.
