We are very pleased to welcome Monika Geier to HausDrei for a special reading. All proceeds from the event will benefit HausDrei.

Monika Geier is one of the most distinctive voices in German-language crime fiction. Her books are meticulously observed, full of dry humor, and always a little different from what you might initially expect. In *Ein schönes Kind*, crime fiction, the world of film, and family secrets collide. Throughout the book, Geier repeatedly plays with the question of what is actually true and who decides which story gets told.

This is also the case in “Ein schönes Kind.” She tells a crime novel that isn’t satisfied with the question “Who did it?” Set designer Marlie Eichhorn is searching for a suitable filming location for a television production when she stumbles upon an old villa—and a story that is far from as resolved as it initially appears.

Fans of classic crime novels will recognize the joy of unraveling mysteries and of characters with hidden sides. At the same time, “Ein schönes Kind” is quintessentially Monika Geier: clever, unconventional, and with a keen eye for life’s little absurdities.
