Fancy an evening of musical surprises and classics from the last few centuries? Then you should make a note of the concert dates of the Munich Chamber Orchestra, or MKO for short, in your calendar.
The MKO is world-famous and highly regarded for its magnificent concert programs. Eight times a season, the orchestra presents its concert series in Munich's most beautiful concert hall, the Prinzregententheater. The concert series has a different motto each season, which links the diverse and exciting programs together. With great openness and curiosity, a high degree of stylistic variability and an excellent level of interpretation, the MKO combines music from earlier centuries with contemporary works in an exciting way.

The next dates and our guests:
21.11.2024 - 2nd subscription concert - cellist Nicolas Altstaedt and the MKO - music by Schubert, Shostakovich, Dutilleux and Birtwistle
Nicolas Altstaedt is a master storyteller on the cello. From pure, warm singing to wild, risky sound adventures - even the brittle and unfinished becomes a thrilling experience with him. Altstaedt is the focus of the MKO twice in this 'Nachtwache' season. This time with Shostakovich's ambiguous Cello Concerto No. 1, which has all sorts to offer, from an unmarchable march to a worldly lullaby melody and a rugged finale; and with Henri Dutilleux's enigmatic and thoughtful solo piece 'Trois Strophes sur le nom de Sacher'. As primus inter pares, he conducts Schubert's 'Tragic' Symphony, in whose darkened C minor the light also shimmers hopefully. The evening opens with Harrison Birtwistle's 'Cortege', a ceremony for 14 musicians who enter into a multifaceted exchange of dialogs and monologues without a conductor.
