Munich through the eyes of dance

Beyond the official history of the city and dance, our Dance City Tours tell the untold stories of dance—amid vanished places, communities, and living memories.

In July and August 2026, we invite you to join us on two mobile dance excursions through Munich. Together, we’ll explore sites of urban dance culture beyond the official history of the city and dance: parks, basements, clubs, former gathering places, and public spaces.

Drawing on the oral histories from the “Münchner Tanzgeschichten” project by CHAKKARs – Moving Interventions, the excursions bring a living archive to life—shaped by migrant and diaspora communities, amateur dance, club cultures, and urban scenes. Maps, personal narratives, short dance sequences, and spontaneous interventions come together to form a collective movement through the city—as a space of memory experienced through the body.

On July 25, 2026, the following will share stories and dance: Bidisha Dutta, Fanny Bartl and Mitja Suschevici, Oliver Hochkeppel, Rafael Muñoz, Tunay and Tuğba Önder, and others.

On August 1, 2026, performing and sharing stories: Charles Albertus with Claudia Wex and his tap dance school, Derya Saka and the Kurdish dance group, Hülya Bozkurt-Weller, Karnik Gregorian, Nina Poethen, and others.

CHAKKARs – Moving Interventions creates spaces where BIPoC and post-migrant perspectives are made visible through dance, and retells forgotten dance stories from Munich’s communities from an anti-racist and decolonial perspective.

Munich Through the Eyes of Dance – Excursion 2: The Station District

Meeting point: EineWeltHaus, Werkstatt, Schwanthalerstraße 80 (near U4/U5 Theresienwiese)

The following applies to both excursions:

Accessibility: The excursion is not wheelchair-accessible. There are longer walking stretches of about 10–15 minutes.

Cost: Free
