Tales by Paula Knaps Loos invites you to escape from everyday life on the dark days of winter. The portrait-format collages, which resemble portals, take you on a mental journey to faraway places or to another time. Painted, pasted and stuccoed tiles awaken a longing for French cafés, walks in Portugal or a galleria in Italy. With intimate pictorial concepts of places of longing, the artist brings both nostalgia and warmth into the cold parking garage.
Paula Knaps Loos uses everyday materials such as tiles, wallpaper and stucco for her works. Decorated with ornaments and floral elements, they bring elegance and grandeur to the everyday setting of the parking garage. The large-format graphics are reminiscent of the formal language of Art Nouveau, which was also characterized by an artistic reinterpretation and redesign of the everyday.
In her work, Paula Knaps Loos explores the concept of décor and decoration at the boundaries of fine art, architecture, kitsch and everyday materials. She graduated in 2023 with Prof. Katharina Wulff at the Düsseldorf Art Academy.
The work can be seen independently of a visit to the Kunsthalle in the parking garage on Grabbeplatz (the entrance is at the back of the Kunsthalle building).
