MÚR | European Summer Tour 2026 | München
In the organizer's words:
With a sound that defies clear genre classification and a vision that pushes creative boundaries, Múr is among the most exciting new acts to emerge from Iceland’s volcanic underground. The up-and-coming quintet represents a new generation of dark, atmospheric, and boundary-pushing metal. Progressive influences reminiscent of the Devin Townsend Project and Opeth’s mid-period meet the raw power and technical precision of bands like Neurosis and Gojira. At the same time, the musicians incorporate their jazz background into their compositions, creating a soundscape that is as multi-layered as it is intense.
The band describes its music as “a wall of sound and emotion” while making it clear that its sound is deliberately open to interpretation. “I’m not sure whether it’s our place to fully define it,” explains Haraldsson, “as people seem to take vastly different things away from experiencing it, depending on who they are and what they like in music.” It is precisely this openness that makes Múr so special: While the complex arrangements weave together a wide variety of musical influences, the human experience is always at the emotional center. “Most of the lyrics revolve around facing yourself, breaking the shackles of inner turmoil, and finding strength in letting go,” he adds.
The band’s sources of inspiration also extend far beyond classic metal influences. “We draw inspiration from a lot of different sources, both when it comes to songwriting and when designing the broader soundscapes and textures. Among other things, we’re inspired by film scores, forces of nature, and various forms of electronic music,” says Haraldsson.
With their self-titled debut album, released on November 22, 2024, via Century Media Records, Múr has already garnered international attention. Ever since their acclaimed performance at the Soulcrusher Festival in 2023, the band has been regarded as one of the most exciting new acts on the European metal scene. With their unique blend of atmospheric soundscapes, haunting songwriting, and raw emotional intensity, Múr have made a name for themselves both in their home country of Iceland and far beyond, and are now considered one of the country’s most promising musical exports.
