Muttersprache Mameloschn [14 plus] (12. Sächsisches Theatertreffen)

Three women, three generations, one family: grandmother Lin, who survived the concentration camp, was a staunch communist, committed to the GDR and toured abroad singing Jewish songs. Even as an adult, her daughter Clara confronted Lin with the accusation that she had neglected her as a child for the sake of her stage career. Granddaughter Rahel, like her brother before her, wants to leave the family and go abroad. Social circumstances repeat and vary in the lives of the three: What did it mean to be Jewish in the GDR 50 years ago, and what does it mean today?

Mameloshn is the Yiddish word for mother tongue, and for Lin, Clara and Rahel, the mother tongue proves to be an eternal foreign language of love that does not protect them from misunderstanding. A sharp-tongued play and a tribute to Jewish humor.

THE SAXON THEATERTREFFEN
Every two years, theaters from Annaberg-Buchholz to Zittau, from Plauen to Radebeul come together for the Saxon Theatertreffen. After 10 years, Leipzig will once again be the venue in May 2024, with the TDJW and Schauspiel Leipzig as hosts.
In addition to eleven municipal, state and regional theaters, the program also includes productions from the independent theater scene.
