Naturkunden: Petra Ahne über „Wölfe“

In the organizer's words:

The wolf is back in our latitudes, and with it and every sheep it kills, a primal fear also returns. But the wolf has also always interested outsiders who choose the supposedly lonely animal as their soulmate. In her sensitive portrait of the animal, Petra Ahne traces the cultural and natural history of the wolf, explores the history of the motif from Little Red Riding Hood to the werewolf, explores the relationship with its domesticated descendant, the dog, and searches for traces of it today. The question of the wolf is also the question of how much wilderness humans are prepared to endure.

Petra Ahne, born in Munich in 1971, studied comparative literature, art history and journalism in Berlin and London. Her interest in nature led her away from journalism for a short while to work for a foundation that looks after wilderness areas. She has been an editor in the features section of the F.A.Z. since 2021.

In the "Naturkunden" series edited by Judith Schalansky, authors write knowledgeably and passionately about animals and plants, mushrooms and celestial bodies. We are presenting selected books from the series and have found the ideal venue and cooperation partner in the Natural History Museum in the west wing of Schloss Benrath.
