Nessi Tausendschön - 30 Jahre Zenit

People want to laugh. We’re human; we want to be happy and not just constantly grumbling. But often, that’s exactly what we do. And that’s precisely what happens—at its best—on cabaret stages in the evening: an elegant, clever, and beautiful grumbling about life’s big issues—and its small ones, too. Failure as a springboard, success by chance, happiness as the result of a continuous quest for insight.

For 30 years, Nessi Tausendschön has been a fixture on the stage. Thirty years of sophisticated, cultured eccentricity, seamless blend of grand and intimate artistry, bewildering dance, melancholic poetry of contrition, and beautiful music. When Nessi celebrates life’s fractures, even the spiritually blind in the audience awaken from their detached stupor; the boundaries between inner, remembered emotional reality and outer, embodied presence—between the public and the private, indeed the intimate—blur, and not a single eye remains dry. In short: as a cabaret artist, Nessi has a tongue like a riding crop, but as a singer, she has a voice like an angel.

For the sake of completeness, it should be noted that 30 years on stage have not left Ms. Tausendschön unscathed: she is the recipient of the German Cabaret Award and the Salzburg Stier. These awards may serve as examples of the numerous other honors with which the cultural industry has recognized the cabaret phenomenon that is Nessi Tausendschön. And one more thing: Since the Böhmermann affair, we all know that satire does make a difference—even if it’s just a state affair, haha. And knowing that I’m just a tiny cog in the grand scheme of things, I can say with a clear conscience: I love being a cabaret artist.
An entertainer, a comedy whore, a joke prostitute, a prankster, a fun courtesan, a joke harlot, a joke bitch, a gag slut, a prank call girl, in Newspeak today, I suppose that’s called a “Joke Account Facility Manager.”
