What could accompany one into the New Year more buoyantly than the music of such spirited composers as Mozart or Rossini, whose overture to the opera "The Thieving Magpie" forms the prelude to this musical New Year's greeting from our salon orchestra? In colorful arrangements, the program offers not only dance-like verve - in Ponchielli's famous "Dance of the Hours," for example - but also an opportunity to revel, for example in Bellini's melodious "Norma" aria "Casta Diva" or Offenbach's "Barcarole." Dreaming is also allowed: of sun, flowers and the first warm days, whose imminent arrival Johann Strauss' "Frühlingsstimmenwalzer" (Waltz of the Voices of Spring) also describes pictorially in a chamber orchestra version.
