Richard Galliano is the figurehead par excellence for the accordion! It is not least thanks to him that this instrument is once again enjoying a greater status. He has worked with everyone from Chet Baker and Ron Carter to Wynton Marsalis, Juliette Gréco, Charles Aznavour and Michel Legrand. But perhaps his most influential encounter was with Astor Piazzolla, who encouraged him to immerse himself in the roots of his native France in 1980. Richard Galliano thus invented the "New Musette", with which he liberated accordion music from traditionalism through a contemporary combination with blues, tango and jazz - just like Piazzolla with his "Tango Nuevo"! In his program "New York Tango Trio", Richard Galliano traces the common identity of jazz, tango and musette with guitarist Adrien Moignard and bassist Diego Imber. He pays a very personal tribute to his Argentinian mentor by announcing that he will "play in a completely free way at every concert, sometimes departing from the score, but never from the soul of the composer".
