A moving story about survival, courage and the fight against forgetting
1945: The war is over, the Auschwitz concentration camp has been liberated. Karl Josef Reinhardt, the violinist of the famous Sinti family, makes his way back to Cologne together with the six survivors of his twelve children.
Krystiane Vadja brings this long journey and the stories behind it to life. Using simple words, she manages to tell this difficult story in a gentle way for children aged 6 and over. The story is sensitively illustrated by Lukas Ruegenberg.
With the help of Markus Reinhardt, the grandson of Karl Josef Reinhardt, the author makes it clear what they are still concerned with today: never looking away and NOT accepting discrimination against social groups.
A plea for reconciliation, humanity, tolerance and mutual respect.
