Night Swimming

Somewhere between dream pop and indie rock, Night Swimming creates vibrant, cinematic soundscapes that explore the darker facets of human experience. In just a few years, the British quintet has emerged as one of the most exciting bands on the island.

The five band members met while studying in Bath, in southern England. Lead singer Meg Jones, guitarists Sam Allen and Jesse Roache, bassist Josh Nottle, and drummer Torin Moore had all been active in various bands before coming together to form Night Swimming in 2020. Initially inspired by dream pop greats like the Cocteau Twins and Beach House, they quickly found their own style. With their debut EP “No Place To Land,” released in 2024, they impressed listeners with their intimate honesty and effortlessly blended the shoegaze sound of the 1990s with modern influences.

This was followed in May of this year by their second EP, “Melting, Sometimes Bleeding,” created in close collaboration with producer Peter Miles and mastering engineer Simon Scott, known for his work with Slowdive. Lyrically, the band explores themes such as identity, interpersonal alienation, and loss. The result is a confident and captivating work that, with soaring guitar melodies, haunting vocals, and fast-paced drums, creates an atmosphere that is both soothing and stimulating: In particular, bandleader Meg Jones’s classical music training lends the songs an extraordinary depth when she employs her distinctive falsetto voice.

Over the years, Night Swimming has also perfected their atmospheric sound on stage—they’ve already demonstrated this at international festivals and as the opening act for acts like Heartworms, bdrmm, Miki Berenyi, and Pale Blue Eyes. With their latest EP in tow, Night Swimming are finally coming to Germany in October to play an exclusive headline show in Cologne.
