With this concert I want to go back to my jazz roots and play the music that has always moved me essentially: the music of Thelonious Monk.
For me, both Monk's compositions and the way he plays the instrument have a very formative character that has influenced me deeply in my heart.
Of course, there are also other influences in my music that have inspired and shaped me in terms of playing and composition over the last 35 years and that come from the whole world of music (and the whole world of art) (of course!!!). My musical oeuvre, which now comprises well over 600 compositions, has a very wide stylistic range. Nevertheless, as far as "pure" jazz is concerned, Thelonious Monk is one of my essences.
For many years I had so much respect for it that I almost never played Monk pieces (on the piano).
In this concert, I combine Monk classics with compositions of mine that are in the style of the jazz master....
The musical journey will be shaped by:
Reza Askari on bass and Silvio Morger on drums. I have often played with both musicians in various formations.
