In the fall of 2026, the Künstler:innenhaus Bremen will present the solo exhibition *In der Wiederholung beginnen wir* by Swiss artist Nina Emge (*1995, in Zurich, where she lives and works). Her body of work spans sound pieces and sculptures, with the artist exploring various methods of listening in her practice. Emge’s sculptures—whether freestanding or mounted on the wall—serve as vessels for narratives, artisanal knowledge, materials, and plants. This approach is evident in her research and archival work, in her installations and drawings, as well as in the often collaborative processes through which her works are created. The exhibition reflects the diverse ways of co-creating, hearing, and listening with the audience, which play an important role in Emge’s practice. Applied to the realm of sound, Emge understands hearing as a shared process that unfolds between bodies, spaces, and situations. Here, the artist distinguishes between “listening” and “hearing” as active and passive attitudes, respectively, and uses sound and tone as a medium to deepen stories and convey forms of knowledge. *In the Repetition, We Begin* is thus conceived as a contribution to a redefinition of hearing in the context of contemporary social and aesthetic issues. At a time when the public sphere is increasingly fragmented, the exhibition opens up a space in which listening can be experienced as a shared practice that centers on enduring and shaping polyphony.
