John Niven ("Kill your friends") is one of the most important and provocative voices in contemporary British literature. In his latest book, he breaks new ground: O Brother is both an autobiography and a literary search for clues. In his most personal text to date, Niven writes about the suicide of his younger brother. His memoir oscillates between a heartbreaking and a comical tone, in which he tells of a working-class childhood in the Scottish provinces of the 1970s and 80s. In doing so, he traces his own life and that of his brother, juxtaposing advancement and lack of stability. Looking back, Niven attempts to answer questions of guilt and remorse that often haunt the relatives of a suicide. A moving and honest life story - and a declaration of love to a brother who was not up to this life. German text and moderator: Thorsten Nagelschmidt
