OPENING: 25.10.2024, 6 - 10 pm
In the former office loft of Clearstone Recruiting, who kindly provide us with their premises at Heumarkt, with a wonderful view of the Rhine, we are allowed to show a pop-up exhibition for one week!
Under the title "ABSTRAKTIONSGRADE", we are bringing together six artists who have dedicated themselves to abstract art in various forms. We want to show how far the concept of "abstraction" can reach; from art reduced to colors and shapes, to more concrete, geometric forms, to figurative, but strongly abstracted representations. Although the title itself is also somewhat abstract, a varied and colorful exhibition can be expected.
MARC KLEIN and LILIAN MÜHLENKAMP from Berlin make the narrative start. Their style radically reduces their works to an organic design, which they leave to the marginally influenceable coincidence and focus on the sensitive elaboration of colorfulness. With his mirror works, the former expands the space beyond the pure wall surface and creates works of art that offer completely different facets of effect depending on their surroundings. Lilian's paintings captivate viewers with their flowing forms, which leave a great deal of room for interpretation.
YOANA TUZHAROVA and MALTE VAN DE WATER, who both studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Münster, focus no less on the effect of colors. However, they also focus on the concretization of forms. Here, too, the former creates an expansive effect with her light installation, thus detaching the artwork from the wall. Malte's paintings transcend boundaries on a different level; they are characterized by discrepancies between handcrafted, free painting and a deliberately provoked digital impression. In his works on paper, the boundaries - very contemporary - between craft and digital blur even further.
RUBINE SINGH and LUKAS MOLL from Cologne form the narrative conclusion. Both work explicitly figuratively and deal with the human body in a sensual way. Rubine's artworks are still on a largely graphic level; her own approach is described as "semi-abstract pop art" and thus forms the overlap between geometric and figurative forms. While Lukas wants to tell stories of queer people in emotionally charged paintings, who still remain invisible far too often.
At the opening, where the artists will of course be present, there will be delicious Nolte beer and Mate Spritz!
