Based on the Hammond jazz tradition of the 50s and 60s, which was shaped by icons such as Jimmy Smith, Les Strand, Jack MC Duff or Shirley Scott, from hard bop and soul jazz, the Organ Smarties have come together in an organ trio context that also allows escapades into freer musical spaces without leaving any big question marks. Sometimes R&B classics or pop hits are used as source material. The three protagonists have known each other since their studies at the Cologne University of Music and have since performed on many stages in Germany and abroad. They have played or are playing in the bands of Till Brönner, Roachford, Mezzoforte, Laith Al Deen, Vega, Peter Herbolzheimer, Helge Schneider, Stefan Raab and many more.
