BIOGRAPHY: The award-winning and internationally acclaimed organist and composer Hayo Boerema (b. 1972) from Rotterdam is the titular organist of the largest organ in the Netherlands: the 85-stop Markussen Organ at Laurenskirk in Rotterdam. As a versatile performer, Hayo has won numerous international organ competitions, including those in Vienna (1998), Nuremberg (1999), St. Albans (2001), Nijmegen (2004), and Kotka (2005). That same year, he was appointed titular organist of Laurenskirk in Rotterdam. In 2009, he received the Silver Medal from the Académie Arts-Sciences-Lettres in Paris for his outstanding achievements as a performer of French organ music. Today, Hayo is committed to the advancement of organ music worldwide and is invited to perform in concerts around the globe. He also regularly participates in radio and television productions—both as a soloist and in collaboration with professional ensembles such as the Laurens Collegium. In addition to his concert career, Hayo is a professor of organ at the prestigious Royal Conservatory in The Hague. Internationally, he gives master classes in interpretation and improvisation and is a sought-after jury member at major competitions, including the long-standing International Organ Improvisation Competition in Haarlem.
