Orlando
In the organizer's words:
A DANCE PIECE BY TIM PLEGGE WITH THE HEIDELBERG PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA, BASED ON THE NOVEL BY VIRGINIA WOOLF
DANCE·WORLD PREMIERE·FOR AN INTERNATIONAL AUDIENCE
Inspired by Virginia Woolf’s 1928 novel—an opulent celebration of “both-and”—this ballet follows a character in constant transformation. Orlando transcends gender, time, and social boundaries, continually reinventing themselves in the process. Beginning as a young man, Orlando shifts identities and forms over the centuries, arriving in the present as a woman and a writer. Love and poetry are the transformative forces on this journey. The story encourages us to view our own boundaries not as endpoints, but as transitions.
With “Orlando,” choreographer Tim Plegge introduces himself to the audience as the new dance director of Tanz Heidelberg. The Heidelberg Philharmonic Orchestra provides the musical accompaniment for this journey through time under the direction of Dietger Holm.
