Orpheus und Eurydike | Eine Oper ohne Orchester in vier Akten

In the organizer's words:

An opera without orchestra in four acts
freely adapted from Christoph Willibald Gluck
POUR ENSEMBLE
Idea & Organization: Ute Völker

For the first time, the mixed-abled POUR EN SEMBLE is devoting itself to an opera - and taking up one of the central myths of European cultural history.

Orpheus and Eurydice was set to music by composers of many eras, most notably in the operas of Claudio Monteverdi and Christoph Willibald Gluck. Based on Gluck's music, Gunda Gottschalk, Fabian Neubauer and Ute Völker have developed an idiosyncratic, contemporary interpretation for the ensemble.

The ensemble members play, dance, scream and sing - a premiere for the POUR ENSEMBLE. The result is an interdisciplinary approach to the art form of opera and at the same time an intense piece about courage, love and loss. It is about longing, trials and the painful difficulty of not being allowed to look at a loved one.

The myth tells the story of the singer Orpheus, who loses his wife Eurydice shortly after their wedding. Out of love, he descends into the underworld to bring her back. He is not allowed to look back for her on the way back - but he fails shortly before reaching his goal. Eurydice dies a second time. Gluck, however, gives the story a hopeful ending: Cupid intervenes and reunites the lovers. The POUR ENSEMBLE has deliberately opted for this conciliatory version.
