Florence in the 1550s. The painter Jacopo da Pontormo is found dead, stabbed with a pair of scissors, lying at the foot of his unfinished fresco in the Chapel of San Lorenzo. He had been working on it for eleven years and no one was allowed to see it - except Michelangelo, who held Pontormo in high esteem as a great artist. Strangely enough, parts of the fresco were painted over - why and by whom? Uproar in the art world! But also in politics.
