The little tree is unhappy because it has hard, prickly needles instead of soft, green leaves. Why can't he be as beautiful as the other trees? Finally, his wish comes true, but in a surprising way....

The libretto of "Das Bäumlein" is based on the old poem "Vom Bäumlein, das andere Blätter hat gewollt" by Friedrich Rückert (1813) and the famous Dutch picture book "Het boompje" by Loek Koopmans. Based on this timeless story, librettist Ruben van Gogh created a contemporary, poetic and funny version for the music theater ensemble Frisse Oren. In the atmospheric and sometimes unexpected music of Bastiaan Woltjer, who incidentally proves that opera can swing, you can almost hear the seasons pass by.
