The TMD Theatermuseum Hofgartenhaus Düsseldorf is celebrating pop and cultural diversity with a new series of events. At the center of it all is a vegetable that you will all be familiar with from your everyday lives - but whose multicultural significance probably escapes you every day: the pickled cucumber, which is called 'pickle' in English. The TMD will therefore be transformed into the Pickle Palace for the first time on February 3. Pickles are an integral part of customs and traditions as well as regional branding and pragmatic preparation for harsh winters. And they simply taste good. And not just on their own or on sandwiches, but also as a schnapps or cocktail. And of course, they don't just exist as food, but also make an appearance in songs, YouTube videos or as Instagram icons.
How does that make up a whole evening, you may ask? Let yourself be surprised and get to know the 'power of pickle' for yourself. Sascha Förster has invited a local 'pickle lover' for this evening. There will be pickle tasting, cocktail shaking, knowledge sharing about the different customs of pickle preparation, personality tests and much more. You may enter the TMD skeptical, but you will leave the evening as 'pickle fellows'.
Thanks to the PING, you will also be provided with drinks that don't taste like cucumber if necessary. Afterwards, you can hang out in the TMD, listen to music and chat with others about their pickle stories and rituals. Because very different cultural identities come together in the seemingly banal.
The Pickle Palace series focuses on food, foodstuffs, drinks etc. that represent cultural identities and at the same time live on in pop culture. By eating, tasting and chatting together, diversity and the strange can become recognizable in the ordinary and familiar. Future editions are to be developed with various cooperation partners.
