75 years of the Federal Constitutional Court: Since its foundation in 1951, the Federal Constitutional Court has become a pillar of German democracy. It monitors compliance with the Basic Law, protects the fundamental rights of citizens and has significantly shaped the political and social development of the Federal Republic with its decisions. To mark its 75th anniversary, the "Politics of the Week" series pays tribute to the history, self-image and significance of this special constitutional body. Munich's former mayor Christian Ude talks to former Federal Constitutional Court judge and Minister of State Prof. Dr. Peter M. Huber about the authority and responsibility of the court, its role in times of social and political tensions and the question of what makes it so special in the constitutional structure of the Federal Republic.
