A lifetime of living. A cupboard full of things. When Dowland's melancholic lute songs from the 17th century resound, a magical secretary decides it's time to tell stories. About objects from times gone by, memories of happy and less happy moments, about beauty and transience, comfort and sadness. Slowly, the cabinet opens and magical still lifes unfold. But in the end, everything passes. Even a cupboard full of things. In "Poor Thing", VOX Muziektheater takes you on a search for the power of melancholy. A performance in which live music and objects reinforce each other, full of rousing songs and imaginative theater. An ode to melancholy, and thus an all-encompassing embrace of life.
